Domain Verification Made Easier – Google Webmaster Tools

On 4th June Google announced a new initiative that allows easier domain verification which is necessary to obtain certain services provided by them such as Google Apps and Webmaster Tools.

Before educating you on what is on offer, let us have a look at the background that made Google to offer this new facility. When you need to use certain services provided Google it is necessary for you to verify your domain or website to prove that it is owned by you. This is because these services could share sensitive data from your domain such as search queries to operate services that are internet-facing such as hosted mail on behalf of you.

Domain verification is one of the of the support verification services of Google. Presently, when domain verification is necessary, this method wants the user to create a DNS TXT Record manually. This could be a difficult and challenging task for many users.

At present, with the collaboration of eNom and Go Daddy, They have introduced an automated domain verification solution that is simple to operate. It will also guide you through the few steps to obtain the service.

In case the domain verification service of yours is managed by Go Daddy or eNom, in the interface of Google site verification, you will find a verification method that is easier and new.

When you select this method, a pop up window will appear which will ask you to use your present account and log into your provider. When you log on for the first time, you will be prompted to authorize your provider to access the Google services for verification. Then you will be requested to confirm the need for verification. Finally, you will be given a verification report in a few seconds.

If your domain name records are managed by eNom or Go Daddy, in the Google site verification interface you will see a new, easier verification method as shown below.

Selecting this method launches a pop-up window that asks you to log in to the provider using your existing account with them.

The first time you log in, you’ll be asked to authorize the provider to access the Google site verification service on your behalf.

Next you’ll be asked to confirm that you wish to verify the domain.

And that’s it! After a few seconds, your domain should be automatically verified and a confirmation message displayed.

It is possible for eNom and Go Daddy customers to use this service now and do their verifications quickly and easily.
